Copic Ciao Marker 5+1 Set Greys with Multiliner

Copic Ciao Marker 5+1 Set Greys – alcohol markers with multiliner

The Copic Ciao Marker 5+1 Set Greys contains five alcohol markers in cool greys and a black multiliner. It suits illustrations, scribbles and storyboards and, according to Copic, is an entry-level graphic marker, for example for school and college.

Each Ciao marker has two tips: a brush tip for soft gradients and a medium chisel tip for filling areas and drawing straight edges. The ink is alcohol- and dye-based, dries quickly and does not smudge. You can carry on working on your sketch straight away without the colour smearing. The markers can be refilled with Copic Ink, which is available in 180 colours. That way a favourite shade lasts longer.

Working with the set

Start by drawing your outlines with the multiliner. According to Copic, its waterproof pigment ink does not bleed on contact with water once fully dry. Let the lines dry completely before you colour. Use the chisel tip to fill areas and the brush tip for shadows and soft transitions. Alcohol ink can bleed through thin paper, so put a sheet underneath.

Which set to choose

The greys C1, C3, C5, C7 and black (100) cover a full grey scale from light to dark. This lets you build up shading, volume and storyboard sketches in a single colour family. If you want bright, light colours instead, the Ciao Set Pastel Colours from the same range is the alternative.
