The Copic Ciao 5+1 Warm Greys set contains five alcohol markers in grey and black tones and one black multiliner. You can use it for sketches, illustrations, scribbles, storyboards, comics and manga or scrapbooking. It is aimed at beginners, school pupils and students who want to draw with markers and shade areas.

The Ciao markers are dual-ended: one end has a medium broad nib, the other a brush nib (Super Brush). You fill areas with the broad nib, and with the brush nib you draw fine or broad strokes depending on the pressure. The ink is alcohol- and dye-based and dries quickly. You can blend colours on the surface and layer them over one another.

What is in the set

With W1, W3, W5, W7 and 100 (Black), the five markers cover warm grey from light to dark, plus black. You can use them to shade motifs in grey, add shadows and accents, and build up tonal values in sketches and storyboards. The set also includes a black multiliner with a 0.3 mm nib for outlines and fine details.

Working with the markers and multiliner

Draw your outline with the multiliner first and let the lines dry completely before going over them with the markers. Once dry, the waterproof pigment ink of the multiliner does not bleed on contact with water. Start with the lightest grey and layer darker tones over it if you want soft transitions. Because the ink is alcohol-based, it can bleed through thin paper, so place a sheet of paper underneath. If the colour fades, you can refill the markers with Copic Various Ink or replace the nibs instead of buying new markers.
