Copic Ciao Marker 5+1 Set Manga 1 – five marker pens and a multiliner for drawing and colouring

The Copic Ciao Marker 5+1 Set Manga 1 contains five Ciao marker pens and a black multiliner with a 0.3 mm nib. You can use it to sketch out drawings, illustrations, manga and comic designs and colour them straight away.

Each Ciao marker has two nibs: a brush nib for soft strokes and gradients and a medium chisel nib for filled areas and straight lines. The alcohol- and dye-based ink dries quickly and does not smudge, so you can work layer upon layer without delay. The markers can be refilled with Copic Ink, so an empty marker does not need to be replaced.

The colours in the set

The set contains one marker in each of five colours. The letter in the Copic code stands for the colour family, the number for the shade.

Working with the set

Start by drawing your design with the multiliner and let the lines dry. As the multiliner ink is pigment-based and waterproof, it does not run when you colour over it later. Use the chisel nib to fill areas in even, slightly overlapping strokes. Use the brush nib for details, hair, leaves or soft transitions. For gradients, apply the lighter colour and lay the darker one over it while the area is still wet. Alcohol ink can bleed through thin paper, so place a sheet underneath as a backing.

Choosing more colours

Five colours are enough to cover a small design. If you need more shades later, you can add individual Ciao markers: according to Copic, the Ciao range comprises 180 colours. You will find further ready-made sets from the range under Manga 2 and Manga 5.
