Botz stoneware glaze 9896 Ockergranit – light ochre yellow with black speckles
Botz stoneware glaze 9896 Ockergranit is an opaque liquid glaze for stoneware with a firing range of 1220 to 1280 °C. It fires to a satin finish in a light ochre yellow with fine black speckles. This gives your pieces a lively, granite-like look.
On firing range and temperature, the glaze answers two questions you may have before buying: it stays stable across the whole range from 1220 to 1280 °C, and firing makes the clay body vitrified and frost-proof, with no water absorption. This also makes vessels and decorative items for outdoors possible.
Colour at different firing temperatures
The glaze changes with the temperature. Choose your firing according to whether you prefer a more matt or a more pastel result.
- 1220 °C: satin matt ochre yellow with black speckles
- 1250 °C: satin, light ochre yellow with black speckles
- 1280 °C: satin, pastel ochre yellow with black speckles
How to apply the glaze
Stir the glaze thoroughly before use, as the speckles and colour pigments settle at the bottom. Apply it with a brush in two to three coats; three coats are recommended. Let the glaze dry well between coats so that the layers sit cleanly on top of each other. A coat that is too thin shows as a paler, uneven colour. Wipe the foot of the piece clean before firing so that it does not stick to the kiln shelf. Fire within the range of 1220 to 1280 °C; 1250 °C with a 30 min hold is recommended. A test piece shows you beforehand how the glaze looks on your clay and in your kiln.
