Prym sewing machine needles with side-threading eye – thread from the side

Prym 705 sewing machine needles with a side-threading eye (size 80) are universal needles for your sewing machine, so you don't have to pass the thread through the eye. A small slit at the side of the needle eye lets the thread slip straight into the eye, so you don't need a needle threader. This is especially helpful if your eyesight is poor or you often change thread colours.

The slightly rounded point is a universal type and can be used on most materials. Thanks to the flat shank, the needles fit standard household sewing machines. The box contains 5 needles.

Fitting the needle

Size 80 suits light to medium-weight fabrics such as cotton or linen. Use a thread of a matching weight. You can tell a blunt or bent needle by skipped stitches or snagged threads. It is best to change it straight away.

• Switch off the sewing machine and unscrew the old needle.
• Push the new needle in as far as it will go, with the flat side of the shank facing the back (follow your machine's instructions), and tighten the screw.
• Let the thread slip in from the side through the slit into the eye.
