Plaster mould for 18 cm plates – 2-part casting mould for casting slip and porcelain slip

With this 2-part plaster mould you can cast plates 18 cm in diameter from casting slip or porcelain slip. Because the mould is made in two parts, the plate is easier to remove once it has begun to dry.

The absorbent plaster draws water out of the slip you pour in. This builds up an even layer on the mould wall, and the surface turns out smooth. The mould suits workshop, studio and your own craft projects where you want to make several identical plates.

Casting a plate

The mould must be dry before casting, otherwise the plaster will hardly absorb any more water. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for your slip regarding casting time, drying and firing.

• Fit both mould halves together and secure them firmly with rubber bands or a strap.
• Slowly pour in the well-stirred slip until the mould is full.
• Wait until the wall thickness you want has formed on the mould wall, then pour out the excess slip.
• Leave the mould upside down to drain until the plate has started to dry and holds its shape.
• Carefully open the mould halves and take out the plate.

Caring for the plaster mould

Plaster absorbs moisture. After casting, let the mould dry completely before you cast again. It is best to remove any residue dry, once it has hardened. Casting slip does not belong down the drain, as it can block it.
