Straw wreath base for Advent and funeral wreaths

The straw wreath base, also known as a straw ring, is a wreath foundation made of straw. You can use it to make an Advent wreath or funeral wreath and decorate it to your taste.

The ring is easy to wrap with natural fir branches and bind into shape with binding wire. Choose the size from the options.

Binding the wreath

Cut the fir branches into manageable pieces and put them together in small bundles. Fix the first bundle to the straw ring with binding wire. Lay each further bundle so that it covers the wire binding of the previous one. This makes the wreath evenly dense, and the straw core is no longer visible. Finally, attach the decoration, for example with wire or hot glue.

Which size?

Depending on the size, the ring is about 4 to 6 cm thick: the smallest ring is slightly slimmer, and from the next size up it is thicker. The larger the ring, the more greenery you will need to cover it all the way round, so it is best to allow for a few more branches.
