The da Vinci BLENDER from series 135 is an oval blending brush for oil and acrylic paints. It softens colour transitions without visible brush marks. The wavy synthetic fibres imitate pony hair and pick up the paint gently, so the brush does not drag marks across the surface.

The wooden handle is polished blue and short, and the ferrule is a so-called silver ferrule. According to da Vinci, the brush is vegan. The short handle lets you work close to the canvas, for example when blending skies, skin tones or backgrounds. The BLENDER is available in sizes 6, 10 and 14.

Blending with the BLENDER

First apply the two colours side by side and let them overlap slightly at the boundary. Then, with a clean, dry brush and light pressure, stroke across the transition zone, always in the same direction and with light strokes. The wavy fibres do not push the paint away but draw it softly together. Wipe the brush on a cloth from time to time so that it does not carry paint back from one side to the other. The most common mistake is too much pressure or a brush loaded with paint: this produces streaks instead of a smooth gradient. Clean the brush thoroughly after use, before the paint dries.

Which size to choose

Series 135 is available in sizes 6, 10 and 14. The larger the brush head, the wider the areas you can blend in one stroke, for example skies or large backgrounds. Smaller sizes suit limited areas and finer transitions, such as in faces.
