The GRIGIO flat brush series 7195 from da Vinci is a synthetic brush for oil and acrylic painting. The synthetic fibres are slightly roughened. According to the manufacturer, this allows them to hold plenty of paint and release it evenly. They also have a firm body and high elasticity, so the bristles keep their shape after the stroke.
The flat shape lets you cover areas, make straight edges and broad strokes, and work up textures. The ferrule is seamless, rustproof and silver-coloured. The long, hexagonal handle is polished burgundy. The brush is made in Germany. Choose the size from the options.
Working with the flat brush
Pick up the paint with the broad side and wipe excess paint off on the edge of the palette. To cover an area, draw the brush in even strokes and overlap them slightly. For a straight edge, use the narrow side. The broad side produces wide, smooth strokes. To create texture, load the brush with more paint and apply it in short strokes. The most common mistake is too much paint on the brush: it collects in the ferrule and makes the bristles splay.
Size and care
Choose the size to suit the area: narrower brushes handle edges and smaller areas more precisely, while wider ones cover large areas in just a few strokes. Clean the brush straight after painting.
