da Vinci GRIGIO Angled Brush Series 7197 – Edges, Areas and Blends in Oil and Acrylic
The GRIGIO angled brush series 7197 from da Vinci is a brush for oil and acrylic painting. The synthetic fibres are lightly roughened, so they hold plenty of paint. It can also be used with gouache. With its angled shape you can make broad strokes, clean edges and fine lines with the same brush.
The brush has a long, hexagonal handle in burgundy and a silver ferrule. The long handle makes it easy to work at a little distance from the easel. Choose your size from the options.
Working with the angled brush
For larger areas and underpainting, paint with the broad side of the angle. Draw edges, contours and fine lines with the tip, tilting the brush slightly and guiding it on its narrow side. For soft blends, stroke lightly over the boundary between two still-wet areas of colour. A common mistake is getting too much paint into the ferrule: it dries there, splays the fibres and is hard to wash out. So dip only the tips of the fibres and wash the brush thoroughly after painting.
Which size?
Series 7197 is available in several sizes. Smaller brushes suit details and narrow edges, while larger ones cover areas more quickly. For contours and small formats, choose a narrow size; for backgrounds and large canvases, a broader one.
