The da Vinci COSMOTOP-SPIN sword brush, series 5587, is a flat brush with an angled shape on one side, made for watercolour and silk painting. The fibres are set in a sword shape. Brushes like this are also called sword stripers or lining brushes and are made for drawing long, even lines. The extra-fine, supple synthetic fibre blend in light brown suits fluid paints such as watercolour and silk paints.

A silver ferrule holds the fibres securely in the brush. The short, red-lacquered handle has six flat sides (Esagonal shape) so that it does not turn in your fingers. The short handle lets you work close to the paper and keep good control of your line.

Drawing clean lines

Load enough fluid paint so that it keeps flowing down the hair as you draw and the line does not break. Place the brush, hold it at an even angle and draw the line in one steady stroke. The angled edge gives you a defined stroke width. Long lines work best on smooth painting surfaces such as card or metal. To paint colour gradients, place two shades side by side and blend them with light pressure while they are still wet.
