Paper Hexagons 1.25 inch – 100 Templates for Paper Piecing Patchwork

The Templates Paper Hexagon in 1.25 inch (1 1/4 inch, approx. 3.2 cm) are hexagons for paper piecing patchwork. You get 100 pieces, which you use to tack fabric hexagons over paper and sew them together into flowers, rosettes or all-over patterns.

The even shape helps you make every hexagon exactly the same size, so the edges fit together neatly later. With 100 pieces, you can prepare a larger area in one go.

Working with the paper hexagons

Cut the fabric slightly larger than the paper, with about 0.6 cm seam allowance all round. Place the paper in the centre of the wrong side of the fabric, fold the allowance over edge by edge and hold it in place with a few stitches or with pins. Then place two finished hexagons right sides together and join them along one edge with small whip stitches. Catch only the edge of the fabric and not the paper, so that you can remove it easily later. Only once a hexagon is joined to its neighbours all the way round do you undo the tacking thread and pull out the paper.

Choosing the size

The size determines how fine your pattern will be. At 1.25 inch, they strike a balance between fine detail and quick progress. The same series also comes in 0.5, 0.75, 1 and 1.5 inch. Smaller hexagons give finer patterns, while larger ones work up faster. For a project, it is best to choose one size throughout.
