Prym Omnigrid Flottes Dreieck – patchwork ruler for quarter-square triangles

With the Prym Omnigrid Flottes Dreieck (art. no. 611313) you can cut quarter-square triangles up to 20 cm from fabric strips without working out the measurements at length. The seam allowances are already included in the finished sizes, so there is no extra step. That is handy when you are using up fabric scraps for patchwork.

The ruler is made of clear plastic with a yellow/black grid print. This lets you see the lines on both light and dark fabrics. The 0.25 cm grid helps you line it up accurately. The scale is in cm.

Cutting quarter-square triangles

First cut a fabric strip and lay it flat on the cutting mat. Align the scale of the ruler with the edge of the strip and cut along the angled edge with the rotary cutter. Then turn the ruler and cut the next triangle from the same strip. With quarter-square triangles, the grain runs along the long side of the triangle. This edge therefore stretches less, which helps when you sew blocks together. Hold the ruler firmly with your free hand while cutting so that it does not slip.
