Prym Standard-Elastic 5 mm white – elastic for threading into waistbands and hems

Prym Standard-Elastic (art. no. 910010) is a white elastic 5 mm wide, which you thread into trouser, skirt and pyjama waistbands, hems or jackets. You get 10 m in one piece, enough for several sewing projects.

The elastic is boilproof, washable up to 95 °C and tumble dryer safe. Still, follow the care instructions of the fabric you sew it into. According to Prym, the elastic is supple and strong. It is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100.

Threading the elastic

First sew a casing into the fabric and leave an opening at one point. The elastic then goes in as follows:

• Attach a safety pin to the end of the elastic and push it through the casing.
• Hold on to the other end of the elastic so that it does not disappear into the casing.
• Try the fit before you cut the elastic.
• Overlap the ends, sew them firmly together and close the opening.

5 mm or 12 mm?

The narrow 5 mm elastic suits finer casings, for example on sleeve cuffs, pyjama trousers or lightweight skirts. The Standard-Elastic series also includes the elastic in 12 mm width and in black. Choose the wider elastic if your casing is correspondingly wide.
