Clover 25 mm Bias Tape Maker – Iron-On Bias Binding from Your Own Fabric
With the Clover 25 mm (1") bias tape maker, you can make iron-on bias binding yourself from any fabric you like. You choose the colour and pattern, so you don't have to rely on shop-bought binding. The maker belongs to the Clover Fusible Bias Tape Maker series.
According to Clover, you can use the homemade binding for lattice and network designs in quilting, for edging with piping when quilting and sewing, or for three-dimensional flower appliqués. The maker is made of iron and polymethylpentene. With the fusible web, the binding is already in the right place when you press it on, before you stitch it down.
Making the bias binding
The maker has two slots: the fusible web goes into the upper one, the fabric cut on the bias into the lower one. Using fusible web produces iron-on binding. You can also make bias binding without fusible web using the maker.
- Cut the fabric into strips on the diagonal to the grain.
- Feed the fusible web (10 mm) into the upper slot and the fabric strip into the lower slot.
- Pull both through the maker at the same time while pressing.
- Peel off the backing and apply the finished binding to the fabric.
Which size to choose
The series comes in 6, 9, 12, 18 and 25 mm; at 25 mm (1") this is the widest size. For 25 mm, as for 12 and 18 mm, Clover recommends fusible web 10 mm wide. For the smaller makers in 6 and 9 mm, use 5 mm wide web. If you cut the start of the fabric strip to a point, it is easier to feed into the slot.
