Gütermann Repellent sew-all thread Col. 2 – water-repellent sewing thread for outdoor projects

The Gütermann Repellent sew-all thread Col. 2 set contains 4 reels of water-repellent sewing thread, 100 m each, 400 m in total. You can use it to sew rain jackets, trench coats, outdoor clothing, rain hats and bags. The thread is made of 100 % polyester and is produced with Gütermann's Micro Core Technology®. According to Gütermann, it is intended for water-repellent joining and topstitched seams.

You can use it as both needle thread and bobbin thread, on the sewing machine as well as by hand. According to Gütermann, no special machine settings are needed. Fine Microtex or universal needles up to size 70 are also suitable, so you can use it on thinner, tightly woven fabrics too.

Uses for the thread

Gütermann lists rain jackets, trench coats, outdoor clothing, rain hats, bags, cosmetic bags and dog coats as applications. Wherever the fabric itself is water-repellent, a thread with the same property suits the seam. Bear in mind that water-repellent does not automatically mean waterproof, as the needle punches holes in the fabric. How watertight a seam remains also depends on the fabric and the stitch length. A test piece made from your fabric shows you beforehand how thread and seam behave.

Which set to choose

Col. 2 is one of three colour assortments of the 4-reel set (Col. 1 to 3), all with 4 reels of 100 m. If you need larger quantities, Gütermann also offers a set with 10 reels of 100 m. If you are planning several projects or large items such as jackets with long seams, it is worth looking at the total length: 400 m in the 4-reel set, 1,000 m in the 10-reel set.
