Gütermann Tacking Thread 200 m – cotton thread for tacking and tailor's tacks

Gütermann tacking thread 200 m (series 723550) is a cotton thread for tacking by hand and for making tailor's tacks on fabric. You can use it to hold fabric pieces, hem edges or lining in place temporarily before you sew them together for good, by machine or by hand. The thread is 100 % cotton with a thread weight of Ne 24/2. The reel holds 200 m, enough for plenty of tacking seams. It comes in 3 shades, so you can choose one that stands out from your fabric.

Tacking with the thread

Thread the needle and begin without a firm knot, so that you can pull the thread out easily later. Make the stitches loose and long so that the fabric does not pucker. For tailor's tacks, mark lines or points with loose stitches through both layers of fabric, then gently pull the layers slightly apart and cut the threads between them. This leaves the markings visible on both sides of the fabric. Once you have finished sewing the pieces, cut the tacking stitches and pull out the thread.
