Pelikan Converter C499 – fill your fountain pen from an ink bottle

The Pelikan Converter C499 replaces the ink cartridge in your fountain pen, turning a cartridge pen into one you fill from a bottle of ink. You fit it like a cartridge and draw ink up through the nib by turning the knob.

According to Pelikan, the converter fits most Pelikan cartridge fountain pens and many other cartridge fountain pens. Before buying, check that your model takes the right cartridge size. The converter is supplied empty, and the ink comes from your own ink bottle. This also lets you use ink colours that are not available in cartridges.

Filling the converter

Fit the converter in the fountain pen in place of the cartridge. Then dip the nib and part of the section into the ink and draw the ink up. Afterwards, remove the air.

• Dip the nib and part of the section into the ink
• Turn the knob until the ink has been drawn up
• Turn the knob back a little until a drop appears at the nib; this lets trapped air escape
• Wipe the nib and section with a cloth
