Canson XL Oil & Acrylic spiral pad – sturdy paper for oil and acrylic paints

The Canson XL Oil & Acrylic spiral pad is a painting pad with 30 sheets of 290 gsm paper for oil and acrylic paints. The paper is sturdy enough for thick, impasto paint application, making it an alternative if you want to paint studies, sketches or small pictures without a canvas board or stretched canvas.

A barrier in the paper ensures that water, solvents and binders are absorbed evenly. This keeps the gloss level uniform and prevents patches. The slightly roughened surface holds the paint well. The natural white paper is acid-free, contains no optical brighteners and does not yellow. It complies with ISO 9706 and is therefore resistant to ageing. Choose the size from the options.

Working with the pad

The spiral binding is at the top of the pad. You can paint directly on the pad without the binding getting in the way, or remove the sheets individually. The micro-perforation allows sheets to be torn out cleanly. Let the sheet dry thoroughly first, especially with oil paints, and then carefully separate it along the perforation.

What the pad is suited to

At 290 gsm, the paper also stands up to heavy paint application with a brush or palette knife. It is suitable for colour studies, sketches before a larger picture, exercises in colour mixing and brushwork, and small finished works. If you want to frame a picture later, you can remove the sheet once it has dried and put it behind glass. The pad is light and easy to carry, for example for painting outdoors.
