Schmincke AQUA Artist's Bronze Silver – metallic shine for watercolour and gouache

Schmincke AQUA Artist's Bronze in Silver is a metallic paint for watercolour and gouache painting. It is based on real metal pigments and, according to Schmincke, is more opaque and shinier than effect paints made with pearlescent pigments. You can use it to add silver accents, highlights and decorative details to your paintings.

The paint comes as dry pigment with binder in a 20 ml jar and is mixed with a little water. It dries smudge-proof, but it is not waterproof and is intended for indoor use only. Silver is one of five shades of AQUA Artist's Bronzes, which are also available as Rich Gold, Rich Pale Gold, Pale Gold and Copper.

Mixing the paint

Take only as much as you need straight away and mix it with a little water on the palette just before painting. The amount of water controls the degree of shine, opacity and adhesion.

• Little water: strong shine and high opacity for highlights and accents
• More water: thinner, transparent application for finer gradations
• Apply with a brush on watercolour or gouache paper, card, canvas board or canvas

What it is suitable for and what it is not

The bronze is designed for slightly absorbent surfaces. It is not suitable for plaster, metal or plastic. As the dried paint is not waterproof, protect finished work from moisture and use it indoors only. Smudge-proof means that the dry paint does not rub off when you brush over it.
