Schmincke Diluent N – odourless thinner and cleaner for oil paints

Schmincke Diluent N is an odourless, aromatic-free solvent mixture for oil painting. Use it to thin oil paints and to clean brushes, palettes and other painting tools. It consists of an isoparaffinic hydrocarbon mixture and is made in Germany.

Diluent N is intended only for oil paints and for cleaning your tools. Do not use it to thin oil mediums or varnishes, and it does not dissolve natural resins, synthetic resins or varnishes. Choose the container size from the options.

How to use Diluent N

To thin, add only a little Diluent N to the oil paint and mix it in on the palette. For the first, thin layers you can thin the paint more. For the upper layers, use less thinner. Diluent N contains no binder: too much of it makes the paint layer lean and matt, and it adheres less well. To clean, first wipe off excess paint with a cloth or kitchen paper, then rinse the brush in a small container of Diluent N.

• Before use, test on a trial surface to see how the paint and the surface behave (the manufacturer recommends individual preliminary tests)
• Do not pour used cleaning residues down the drain; collect them separately and dispose of them properly

Storage and limitations

Close the container again straight after use and store it in a cool, dry place, away from ignition sources. If you need something to thin oil mediums or varnishes or to dissolve resins, Diluent N is not the right product. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye/face protection. IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a poison centre or doctor. Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting.
