Schmincke LINO-Perl – pearl lustre effects for your lino printing

Schmincke LINO-Perl is an effect medium for lino printing inks: it gives your prints a shimmering pearl lustre. You can mix it with lino printing ink or print it neat over a colour. It contains gum arabic and effect pigment, and the tube holds 35 ml.

How strong the lustre looks depends on the colour you mix the medium with: the more transparent and darker the shade, the more pronounced the effect. With opaque, light colours it is weaker. According to the manufacturer, the strongest effect comes from using it neat. Mixed into a colour, the medium lightens the shade slightly.

Working with LINO-Perl

The medium is used undiluted and, like the other Schmincke LINO media, is mixed straight into the ink. Mix it on a glass plate or palette with a palette knife until no streaks are visible, then roll the mixture onto the plate as usual. For overprinting, use the medium neat.

Which colour suits the pearl lustre?

Dark, transparent colours such as black, dark blue or violet show off the pearl lustre most clearly. Because the medium lightens slightly, the shade changes a little. Do a test print first on the paper you will be using later. Dried prints are smudge-proof but not waterproof, so keep the finished print away from moisture.
