Eberhard Faber water-soluble wax crayons – 10 colours with scraper

The wax crayons from Eberhard Faber (Winner wax crayon) are water-soluble. You first draw with them like ordinary wax crayons, then blend the colour with a brush and water. The set contains 10 crayons, a scraper and a box with a name label.

The grip zone is ergonomically shaped and has an anti-slip stop, so the crayon sits securely in your hand. The sliding sleeve protects the crayon and keeps your hands clean. According to the manufacturer, the colours are vivid. The crayons also help you practise pencil grip and pressure control.

Working with water-soluble wax crayons

First draw on the paper with the crayon. For soft transitions, brush over the area with a damp brush and the colour will run much like watercolour. A little water gives strong tones, while more water makes the colour softer and more transparent. Use a paper that can cope with moisture so that it does not cockle or go soft.

Scraping technique with the scraper

The crayons work well for scraping techniques. Cover the sheet with several light colours and draw a dark layer over the top, for example in black. Then use the scraper to scratch out lines and patterns so that the colours underneath show through.
