Goldfaber colouring pencils, tin of 48 – soft, richly pigmented pencils
The Faber-Castell Goldfaber colouring pencils in a metal tin of 48 are a coloured pencil set for sketches, hatching and colour drawings at school, as a hobby and in artistic work. The round pencils have a 3.3 mm lead that is soft, richly pigmented and lays down colour evenly, and according to the manufacturer it has excellent lightfastness.
The lead is smudge- and water-resistant. Faber-Castell's Sekural bonding holds the lead firmly in the wood and gives high breakage resistance, even if a pencil is dropped. All the pencils can be sharpened with standard sharpeners. The metal tin keeps the 48 pencils together and protects them in transit.
Working with Goldfaber pencils
The lead is soft. Start with light pressure and build up the colour in several layers rather than pressing hard straight away. This keeps transitions soft, and you can layer colours over one another, for example for shading or lively hatching. Because the lead is smudge- and water-resistant, finished drawings survive accidental rubbing or moisture. A standard sharpener with a sharp blade is enough for sharpening; a blunt sharpener is more likely to tear the wood.
Which set size should you choose?
Goldfaber colouring pencils are also available in a metal tin as 12 and 24 sets with the same 3.3 mm lead. With 48 colours you have the widest choice and need to mix less for fine colour gradations. The smaller sets are enough for getting started or for everyday school use. If you later need a single colour, according to the manufacturer it is also available as an individual pencil.
