Eberhard Faber Artist Color Colouring Pencils, 36 in Metal Tin

Eberhard Faber Artist Color – 36 waterproof colouring pencils in a metal tin

The Artist Color colouring pencils from Eberhard Faber are an assortment of 36 hexagonal coloured pencils in a metal tin. According to Eberhard Faber, they are aimed at hobby artists, school pupils and students. The leads are waterproof and give soft, rich colour. The tin keeps the pencils together and protects them in transit.

With 36 colours in the set, you can lay down areas of colour, build up gradients and layer colours over each other without constantly having to buy extra pencils. The lead is 3.8 mm in diameter. That is thicker than in many standard coloured pencils and covers larger areas more quickly.

Working with soft colouring pencils

Soft, rich leads give plenty of colour even with light pressure. Start with light pressure and build up the colour in several layers. This lets you blend shades and soften gradients. For fine details and outlines, sharpen the pencil carefully. With a 3.8 mm lead, you need a suitable sharpener for this. For large areas, use the side of the pencil or a slightly blunter point. The hexagonal shape sits comfortably in the hand.

Waterproof or watercolour pencil?

Waterproof means that the drawing does not run, even after it has been applied. It is therefore resistant to moisture. If you would rather let the colour run with water and blend it like watercolour, you need watercolour pencils. Eberhard Faber has its own Artist Color range for this, with art. no. 516036.
