Botz liquid glaze 9609 Tropenfeuer is a ready-to-use, glossy glaze for bisque-fired ceramics. It is a deep red with blue, yellow and green speckles. Bowls, figures and decorative items get a lively, textured surface without you having to combine several glazes. The glaze belongs to the earthenware group 1020–1100 °C and is opaque.

Tropenfeuer is stable within the firing range of 1020–1060 °C. It can be fired up to 1100 °C. As the firing range and the upper limit are not the same thing, it is best to plan your firing within the stable range.

Application

The glaze is ready to use and is applied to ceramics that have already been bisque-fired.

• Stir the glaze well before use and thin with a little water if needed
• Apply with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics (at least 950 °C)
• Allow to dry thoroughly and apply another coat if needed
• Fire within the firing range of 1020–1060 °C; firing up to 1100 °C is possible

Effect and firing

The speckles are part of the glaze's character and vary from piece to piece. Make a test piece first on the clay you intend to use, and judge the effect only after firing. Leave the base unglazed so that the piece does not stick to the kiln shelf. Tropenfeuer is intended as a glaze for earthenware; Botz makes no statements about tableware or raku for this colour, so use it for decorative pieces.
