Which size is right?

Size 80 is a medium needle size and suits fabrics such as cotton in ordinary woven fabric. The needles are also available in sizes 60 and 70. They are finer and intended for lighter fabrics.

Inserting and changing the needle

Insert the needle into the holder with the flat side of the shank facing the right way. On most domestic machines it faces the back; if in doubt, follow your machine's instructions. Push the needle up as far as it will go and tighten the screw. Change it when it is blunt or bent, for example if you get skipped stitches or small pulled threads in the fabric.
