Prym Microtex sewing machine needles – 5 fine needles in three sizes

The Prym Microtex sewing machine needles in the 60-80 assortment are flat-shank needles (system 130/705) for domestic sewing machines. They are used for sewing fine, closely woven fabrics. The card contains 5 needles: 2 × size 60, 2 × size 70 and 1 × size 80.

According to Prym, the needles are intended for very fine, modern materials such as microfibres, polyester, coated materials and fabrics with a high thread count. The point is very sharp and slim. It pierces the fabric easily and gives a clean, straight stitch with little seam puckering.

What to use Microtex for

With very closely woven or coated fabrics, a universal needle quickly reaches its limits. The slim Microtex point pierces cleanly, which helps produce a straight stitch. The Finnish Prym website also mentions fine fabrics such as batiste, linen, lace and organza.

Which size is right?

The assortment covers three sizes, so you have a suitable needle to hand for different fabrics. As a rule of thumb, the finer the fabric, the thinner the needle and the finer the thread.

• Size 60: for very fine, thin fabrics
• Size 70: for fine fabrics of medium density
• Size 80: for slightly firmer fabrics

Before inserting

Check in your machine's manual whether it uses system 130/705. Replace the needle as soon as it is blunt or bent, as otherwise skipped stitches or pulled threads can occur in fine fabric.
