Prym Embroidery Needles 75 + 90 – for Machine Embroidery with Thick Threads

The Prym embroidery machine needles (art. no. 154935) are needles for machine embroidery on a domestic sewing machine. The set contains 5 needles: 3 in size 75 (US 11) and 2 in size 90 (US 14). The needles have an extra-wide eye and a wide thread groove, leaving room for thick embroidery threads and wool threads. The slight ball point is intended to be gentle on the material.

In machine embroidery the fabric moves in all directions, so the thread runs differently from ordinary sewing. According to Prym, the wide eye gives the thread room for this movement. The needles are intended for all standard domestic sewing machines with a flat shank.

Which size should you choose?

Size 75 suits finer fabrics and thinner embroidery threads, while size 90 suits thicker threads and heavier fabrics. With both sizes in the set, you can first test an embroidery project on a swatch and then use the right needle.

Changing the needle

Insert the needle into the machine with the flat side of the shank facing the back and push it up as far as it will go. Replace the needle if it is blunt or bent, or if skipped stitches and thread breakage become more frequent. A new embroidery thread usually does not need a different needle, but it does need a suitable eye: the thread must be able to move freely in it.
