Décopatch PappArt Elephant – papier-mâché figure to cover and paint

The Décopatch PappArt Elephant (SA213C) is an untreated brown papier-mâché figure that you can cover with paper, paint or decorate. It stands on four legs and measures 18.5 × 12.5 × 15.5 cm, so it works as a decorative figure for a shelf, windowsill or table. The figure is handmade, so each piece differs slightly.

You can decorate the elephant with Décopatch paper, acrylic paint, glitter or stickers. It can also be left natural for a cardboard-brown kraft look.

Decorating the elephant

To cover it, tear or cut Décopatch paper into pieces. Brush some glue onto the figure, lay the piece of paper on top and brush glue over the top surface as well. Work piece by piece around the body until everything is covered, then leave the figure to dry completely. Small pieces of paper fit more easily around the trunk, ears and legs than large sheets.

Light or dark finishes

The figure is cardboard brown. Light or thin papers and light colours can let the brown base show through. For bright results, prime the elephant with white gesso first. With dark or opaque papers you do not need a primer.
