Rayher wire mesh in platinum – a roll to shape for lampshades, floristry and model making

The Rayher wire mesh comes as a 50 × 100 cm roll with a mesh size of 12.7 × 12.7 mm. It is made of wire, platinum in colour, and can be cut, bent and shaped. You can use it for flower arrangements, figures and model making, or decorative craft projects.

According to Rayher, the mesh gives a lampshade stability, and fairy lights can be attached to it easily. Because the colour is platinum, you can also leave the mesh visible, for example as a framework that stays on show in the finished project.

Working with the mesh

Measure the piece on the mesh and cut it to size with side cutters or wire cutters. Then bend it by hand or around a form, such as a cardboard tube or a pipe, until it has the curve you want. The cut edges have small wire ends that can prick: bend them inwards or file them down, especially on lampshades and on decorations that will be handled.

Uses for the mesh

With its 12.7 mm mesh size, the mesh holds flowers and twigs in arrangements, works as a framework for figures or as a base for model landscapes. If you are making a lampshade, shape the mesh into a cylinder and join the edges with wire.
