Rectangular basket base 300 x 500 mm – foundation for large baskets

This rectangular basket base is made of laser-cut birch plywood with 55 pre-drilled holes for the stakes. At 300 × 500 mm, it suits large rectangular baskets, for example for storage or laundry. The holes are already drilled, so there is nothing to mark out or drill and you can start inserting the stakes straight away.

At approx. 3.0 mm thick, the base is flat yet still supports the basket structure. The holes are approx. Ø 3.3 mm. Choose stakes that are slightly thinner, so they can be pushed in without force and sit snugly in the hole. A smaller version is available in 20 × 30 cm.

Weaving the basket

Soak the centre cane stakes and weaving material briefly in water before use, so they become pliable and do not break. Insert the stakes into the holes one after another and bend them upwards. Then weave round after round around the stakes. On such a large base, it helps to space the stakes evenly in the corners and along the long sides, so the walls stand straight. Lightly sand any rough spots on the laser-cut edges beforehand.
