Plaster mould for espresso saucer – 2-part slip casting mould

With this 2-part plaster mould you cast a matching saucer for small espresso cups of 6 cm. The mould is intended for ceramic slip casting and can be reused as often as you like. This gives you even saucers in series, for example for your own cup set.

The saucer has an outer diameter of approx. 11.8 cm, and the cup well measures 3.3 cm. These dimensions help you plan: check beforehand that your cup fits the well.

Slip casting step by step

Plaster moulds draw water out of the casting slip, so a layer of clay builds up on the mould wall. A dry mould absorbs evenly, whereas a mould that is still damp works poorly.

• Fit the two mould halves together and secure them with rubber bands so that nothing gapes open.
• Pour in the casting slip and wait until a sufficiently thick layer has formed on the wall.
• Pour out the excess slip and leave the piece to stiffen until it can be released.
• Open the mould, fettle the seams and edges, leave the piece to dry and then fire it.

Caring for the plaster mould

Plaster is sensitive to moisture and knocks. After casting, leave the mould to dry out completely before using it again, and store it in a dry place. Do not clean it with water; remove residues only once they have dried.
