The da Vinci NOVA series 18 priming brush is a flat synthetic brush for priming and for applying colour over large areas with acrylic, watercolour, gouache and ink. The extra-fine, golden synthetic fibres hold plenty of paint and release it evenly. This helps you fill areas without breaks or streaks.

According to da Vinci, the stroke edge is precise, so you can paint clean edges and even areas. The brush has a silver ferrule and a short acrylic glass handle with a bevelled end. The short handle sits comfortably in the hand and suits work close to the painting surface. Series 18 is made in Germany and is labelled vegan.

Working with the flat priming brush

For priming, apply the paint or primer in thin, even layers and brush in one direction. Let each layer dry before applying the next. Use the straight edge for clean borders and the broad side to cover areas. To blend watercolour or thinned paint, brush lightly over the still damp surface. Wash the brush out straight after painting, especially with acrylic, so the paint does not dry in the fibres.
