The da Vinci NOVA Synthetics brush set 4219 contains four round brushes from series 1570 in sizes 0, 2, 6 and 12. They are designed for acrylic paints and work equally well for watercolour, oil and gouache. The extra-fine, springy synthetic fibres pick up paint well and release it in a controlled way. The fibres are easy to clean after painting and keep their shape.

The brushes have a seamless, rustproof silver ferrule and short, green polished handles. With a short handle you hold the brush close to the tip, which helps with details and at the painting table.

Which size for which job?

The four sizes cover everything a round brush can do, from a fine line to a larger area.

• Size 0: smallest tip for fine lines, outlines and small details
• Size 2: for details with a little more paint flow, such as leaves or lettering
• Size 6: for shapes and medium-sized areas
• Size 12: broad brush for areas, underpainting and glazes

Care and use

With acrylic paints, always rinse the brush before the paint dries. Dried acrylic is almost impossible to get out of the fibres, especially from the area near the ferrule. Wash the fibres out with lukewarm water, shape the tip with your fingers and leave the brush to dry lying flat. This keeps its shape and stops water running into the ferrule.
