da Vinci COSMOTOP-MIX B flat brush – natural hair and synthetic fibre mix for watercolour and silk
The da Vinci COSMOTOP-MIX B flat brush, series 5830, is a brush for watercolour and silk painting, suited to glazes and broad areas of colour. The hair is a blend of classic natural hair and modern synthetic fibre. The brush holds plenty of paint and releases it evenly. As it contains natural hair, it is not vegan.
The brush has a seamless, rust-resistant ferrule made of nickel-plated brass, the so-called silver ferrule, and a short, blue-lacquered hexagonal handle. It is made in Germany by da Vinci in Nuremberg. Choose your size from the options.
Working with the flat brush
The flat shape is made for glazes and even washes. Load the brush with paint and draw it across the paper using its full width in steady, overlapping strokes. For crisp edges and texture, use the narrow edge. To blend, run the damp brush over the still wet edge of the paint so that the tones merge softly. On silk, too, work with light pressure and an even application.
Which size and which shape?
Sizes 8, 10, 12, 16, 20 and 24 differ in width and hair length. The wider the brush, the larger the area you cover in one stroke. Use the narrower sizes for smaller motifs and narrow areas. For fine lines and details, the round counterpart is available in series 5530.
Care
After painting, rinse the brush thoroughly in clean water and reshape the hair. Leave it to dry lying flat, and never stand it in water with the hair facing down, so that the tip does not bend.
