Prym Elastic-Band strong in white – sewing elastic for waistbands and hems

The Prym Elastic-Band strong in white is a sewing elastic for threading through or stitching on, for example in skirt and trouser waistbands, pyjamas or jackets. According to Prym, it keeps its shape when stretched, does not roll up thanks to its special weave and does not constrict. That makes it comfortable to wear and easy to sew.

The elastic comes on a cassette with a length of 10 m. Choose the width from the options; the range runs from 18 to 50 mm. The black version is available as a separate item.

How to use the elastic

To thread it through, sew a casing into the waistband or hem, leave a small opening and pull the elastic through with a safety pin. Make sure the elastic does not twist inside the casing. Overlap the ends, sew them firmly together and close the opening. To stitch it on, place the elastic on the inside of the waistband and sew it down with a stretch stitch such as zigzag. Stretch it evenly as you sew so that the waistband sits evenly later.

Which width should you choose?

Narrower widths need a narrow casing and suit hems and light waistbands. Wide elastics are suitable for stitching onto trouser and skirt waistbands or for wide waist belts, because they spread the tension over a larger area.
