Prym soft elastic band in black – sewing elastic for waistbands and hems

The Prym soft elastic band in black is a sewing elastic that can be threaded through a casing or sewn on top, for example on trousers, skirts and pyjamas. According to Prym, the band is stable, keeps its shape when stretched and does not dig in. It suits fine, lightweight fabrics. It comes as a 10 m reel, which is plenty for several projects. Choose your width from the options.

According to Prym, the band is washable up to 60 °C and tumble dryer safe. Garments with elastic sewn in can therefore be cared for as normal. The band is also available in white.

How to use the band

To thread it through, sew a casing slightly wider than the band and pull the elastic through with a safety pin or bodkin. Secure both ends with a line of stitching across so the band cannot slip back. To sew it on top, stretch the band slightly as you sew and stitch it to the fabric with a stretch stitch, such as zigzag. This keeps the seam elastic and stops it from breaking.

You can use the band for skirt and trouser waistbands, pyjamas and many other sewing projects. Prym describes it as particularly suitable for fine, lightweight fabrics.
