Prym buttonhole elastic in black – elastic with buttonholes for an adjustable waist

Prym buttonhole elastic is a smooth black elastic with built-in buttonholes. You can use it to sew trousers and skirts with an adjustable waistband, for example for children's clothing or maternity wear. The elastic is 18 mm wide and 1 m long. It is soft and supple, and according to Prym it does not constrict and is comfortable to wear. According to the manufacturer, it is washable up to 60 °C and tumble dryer safe.

You adjust the waist size later with a button at the ready-made buttonholes. This is handy when a child grows or the body shape changes.

Using the buttonhole elastic

The smooth elastic goes into a casing (tunnel) at the waistband. Sew it slightly wider than 18 mm so that the elastic does not twist when worn. Attach a safety pin to the end of the elastic and use it to pull the elastic through the casing. Hold the other end firmly, otherwise it will slip in as well. The button fastens the elastic at one of the buttonholes. This lets you set the waist size flexibly.

What it is used for

Prym names children's clothing and maternity wear as typical uses. With just one metre, you can plan the waistband for a single garment. Measure beforehand the maximum waist circumference you need.
