The silk ribbon (Ruban de Soie à broder) is a 4 mm wide embroidery ribbon made of silk, which you can use to give your embroidery a raised, three-dimensional look. It is particularly suited to floral designs. Each card holds 3 m of ribbon. Choose your colour from the options.

In silk ribbon embroidery, unlike with embroidery thread, you rarely pull the ribbon fully tight. You lay it loosely in knots and loops on the fabric. With just a few stitches you can create sculpted petals and densely filled flower beds.

How to embroider with silk ribbon

Thread the ribbon into a needle with a large eye and work on fabric held in a hoop. Pull the stitches only far enough for the ribbon to lie loosely on the fabric: the looser you work it, the more raised the petals and loops look. If the ribbon is pulled too tight, it lies flat and the flowers lose their volume. Use knots for flower centres and loops for petals.
