Prym Elastic Band in white – for threading, stitching on and as a waistband elastic

The Prym Elastic Band (art. no. 950313) is a 30 mm wide white elastic for sewing projects. You can thread it through the hems of trousers or jackets, stitch it onto the waistband of trousers and skirts or onto waist belts, or use it as an elastic waistband, for example in pyjamas. According to Prym, it is also suitable for finishing neck and armhole edges and for reinforcing waistbands.

The band is made of 78 % polyester and 22 % elastodiene and, according to Prym, has an elasticity of 90 %. It is washable up to 60 °C and tumble-dryer safe, so you can care for your clothes as usual. It is sold as one card containing 1 m.

Using the elastic

To thread it through, sew a casing slightly wider than the 30 mm of the band and leave an opening at one point. Pass a safety pin through the end of the band and guide the band through the casing. Then stitch the ends together so they cannot slip back in. To stitch it on, for example at the waistband, sew the band on with a zigzag or stretch stitch so that the seam does not break when stretched.
