Clover Kantan Couture – applying beads and working chain stitch
The Clover Kantan Couture bead embroidery tool (art. no. 9900) is used to apply beads to fabric and to work decorative chain stitch. It works on the tambour principle: the hook pulls the thread through the fabric in loops, so that stitch by stitch an even row is formed. A fine latch on the needle stops the hook from catching on the fibres.
The handle is made of wood and ergonomically shaped, and the tip is made of steel. The tool is supplied with a storage tube, in which you can keep the needle protected.
Suitable fabrics and threads
The tool works best on fine fabrics such as silk or cotton. The weave should be thin and loosely structured. Dense, firm or easily torn fabrics made of delicate fibres are unsuitable, as the hook can damage them.
- Applying beads and sequins: sewing thread no. 50–60
- Chain stitch: 3 strands of embroidery thread no. 25 or a single strand of embroidery thread no. 5
How to work
Clover recommends using the tool together with the rotating embroidery frame 8815, which is available separately. The frame holds the fabric taut, leaving both hands free for needle and thread. Before starting your actual project, work a few practice stitches on an offcut of your fabric to get a feel for the thread tension and stitch spacing.
