Goerg & Schneider Clay Body 933 – Stoneware Clay with Characteristic Basalt Speckles

The Goerg & Schneider Clay Body 933 is a highly workable, finely grogged stoneware clay with a warm fired colour and characteristic dark basalt speckles. It is suitable for both wheel throwing and hand-building, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of pottery projects.

With a grog content of 20% and a fine particle size of 0–0.2 mm, the clay combines smooth handling with reliable stability. It can be used for smaller, detailed pieces as well as larger wheel-thrown or hand-built ceramic objects.

Depending on the firing temperature, the clay develops a colour ranging from light cream through warm leather to natural cork tones. The embedded basalt particles create distinctive dark speckles that become particularly prominent at higher firing temperatures. This combination gives every piece a lively, naturally varied appearance.

The speckled surface is attractive when left unglazed and also works beautifully with transparent, semi-transparent and breaking glazes that allow the natural clay colour and basalt speckles to remain visible.

With a broad firing range of 1000–1240°C, Clay Body 933 can be used for many different ceramic projects, including mugs, bowls, vases, plant pots, decorative objects and individual art ceramics.
