Noro Ito – gradient knitting yarn in a large 200 g ball
Noro Ito is a 100 % wool yarn for knitting and crochet that changes colour by itself as you work. Each ball weighs 200 g and has a length of approx. 400 m. This means a larger piece such as a jumper, a jacket, a scarf or a shawl can often be made from just a few balls, without constantly weaving in ends.
Noro dyes the fibres before spinning. As a result the yarn has a slightly slubby, lively look, and small knots may occur in the strand. The colour sequence can also differ slightly from ball to ball, so every piece is one of a kind. Choose your colour from the options.
Planning your project
With approx. 400 m per ball, you work out larger pieces by length: divide the metreage given in your pattern by 400 and round up. For larger sizes or long designs, it is better to allow one extra ball. Buy all the balls at once so that the colour gradient and dyeing match. The recommended needle size is 4.5–5 mm. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide.
Using the colour gradient
Since the colour sequence can vary from ball to ball, a trick helps with jumpers and jackets: knit alternately from two balls, so the transitions look more even. With scarves and shawls, on the other hand, the gradient looks particularly attractive if you work in stocking stitch or simple patterns. Elaborate textures quickly get lost in the play of colour.
