The Gütermann machine embroidery thread set (art. no. 734003) contains 20 reels of 200 m each for machine embroidery: 16 reels of Rayon 40, 2 reels of Metallic and 2 reels of Bobbin thread for the underside. With 4,000 m of thread in total, you have embroidery thread for several designs in a single set.

The Rayon 40 thread is made of 100% viscose and has a silk-like sheen. The two Metallic reels in silver and gold add accents, for example for outlines, lettering or highlights.

Which reel for what?

Use the 16 Rayon reels as the top thread for the embroidery designs themselves; the glossy viscose thread gives areas and fills a silky shimmer. Use Metallic sparingly for details so that the accents stand out. The Bobbin reels are fine bobbin threads made of polyester: white suits light embroidery and black suits dark embroidery, so the bobbin thread is as inconspicuous as possible on the reverse.

Embroidering

Choose the needle size to suit the thread: NM 70–90 for Rayon, NM 80–90 for Metallic. It is best to stitch Metallic at a slightly reduced embroidery speed, because the thread is more sensitive to tension than Rayon. A test stitch-out on an offcut of your fabric shows you beforehand whether thread tension and needle work well together.
