Hahnemühle D&S Sketchbook A4 Portrait, 140 gsm, 80 Sheets

Hahnemühle D&S Sketchbook A4 Portrait – Thread-Bound Sketching Paper

The Hahnemühle Draft & Sketch sketchbook in A4 portrait format is a bound sketchbook for drawings, designs and experiments with dry techniques. It contains 80 sheets of natural white drawing paper at 140 gsm. At this weight, pencil, charcoal and red chalk go on cleanly, and you can also use lightly damp media.

The sturdy black cover protects the finished pages. The thread binding means the book lies flat, so you can draw across a double page as well. A red ribbon marker shows where you last worked.

What to use in the sketchbook

The 140 gsm paper is intended for dry techniques: pencil for studies, charcoal for soft shading, red chalk for warm tones. Lightly damp media such as diluted paints are also possible. With wet techniques, expect the paper to cockle if you apply a lot of water. It is not watercolour paper and is not intended for watercolour with generous amounts of water. Charcoal and soft pencils smudge easily; a fixative or a sheet of interleaving paper protects finished pages.

Format and construction

A4 portrait gives you enough room for figure studies, portraits and design sketches without being too bulky for your bag. With 80 sheets, you have plenty of pages for series and variations on a subject.
