The Faber-Castell Albrecht Dürer artists' watercolour pencils in the 60-piece metal tin are watercolour pencils for drawing, painting and working in watercolour. You draw dry first and then dissolve the colour with water and a brush. With just a few brushstrokes you can blend the colour into fine detail or broad areas.

The lead is fully water-soluble and 3.8 mm thick. The laydown is soft and richly pigmented. According to Faber-Castell, the pigments have outstanding lightfastness and colour brilliance. Depending on the paper, the colour can be dissolved completely, and then it behaves like classic watercolour paint. The Sekural bonding (SV) makes the lead break-resistant, which matters when sharpening and in everyday work.

Working with watercolour pencils

Apply the colour dry first, for example for outlines, hatching or gradients. Then go over it with a damp brush: with little water the structure of the strokes stays visible, with more water you get a flat, transparent effect. You can also moisten the brush, pick up colour directly from the lead and apply it like watercolour paint. Use sturdy watercolour paper, because thin paper cockles when you use a lot of water. How completely the colour dissolves depends on the paper. Test it on a scrap piece first.

The Albrecht Dürer watercolour pencils come in a metal tin of 12, 24, 36, 60 and 120 pencils. The set of 60 is a large assortment for subjects where you need many shades and want to mix less. If you would like to start small, choose one of the smaller sets. According to Faber-Castell, the pencils are also available as single colours, so you can add individual shades later.
