Staedtler Mars technico 780C – clutch pencil with sharpener and firm-grip collet

The Staedtler Mars technico 780C in black is a clutch pencil for 2 mm leads, for drawing, sketching and writing. An HB lead is already fitted, so you can start straight away. The collet with 3 jaws holds the lead firmly so it does not give way as you draw. A small sharpener is housed in the end cap, so you always have it with you.

With its shape and metal grip zone, the pencil sits securely in the hand. The clip has an integrated scale that you can use to mark which grade or colour you currently have loaded. This helps if you use several pencils at the same time. The Mars technico 780C is also available with a blue barrel.

Using the clutch pencil

Press the push button at the end of the barrel and the collet releases the lead, so you can push it out to the length you want. When you let go, it grips firmly again. Extend the lead only as far as you need to work: a long, unsupported lead breaks more easily under pressure. When the point becomes blunt, sharpen it in the sharpener in the end cap. To do this, turn the lead in the opening until the point is narrow again.

Which lead to choose

The pencil contains an HB lead, which suits writing and sketching. You can refill the pencil with leads in 9 grades from 4H to 3B. Harder leads (H) give fine, light lines, while softer ones (B) give darker strokes and softer shading. Note the grade you have loaded using the scale in the clip, so you keep track when using several pencils.
