Faber-Castell TK 4600 – clutch pencil for drawing, sketching and writing

The Faber-Castell TK 4600 is a clutch pencil with a 2 mm lead for writing, sketching and technical drawing. The pencil has a hexagonal barrel with ergonomic grip grooves. The strong clamp holds the lead firmly, so it does not slip back while you draw. A sharpener is housed in the end cap, so you can re-sharpen the lead at any time without carrying a separate sharpener. A clip is also fitted.

An HB lead with a diameter of 2 mm is included, so you can start straight away. At a pocket length of 151 mm, the pencil fits easily into a pencil case or drawing portfolio.

Which lead suits which task?

You can refill the TK 4600 with TK 9071 leads in 2 mm. They are available in 9 grades from 4H to 3B. According to Faber-Castell, the leads are break-resistant, deep black, suitable for dyeline (blueprint) copying and easy to erase. The choice depends on your work:

• Hard leads (4H to H): fine, light lines for technical drawings and construction work
• HB and F: for notes, writing and everyday sketches
• Soft leads (B to 3B): strong, darker lines for sketches and shading

Working with the pencil

Use the push button to advance the lead just far enough for it to protrude slightly. Leads that are extended too far break more easily when drawing. When the point becomes blunt, re-sharpen it in the sharpener in the end cap. For an even line width, slowly rotate the pencil around its axis as you draw. The hexagonal barrel with grip grooves ensures a secure hold.
