Faber-Castell replacement compass leads H – 12 graphite leads for clean lines

The Faber-Castell replacement compass leads (art. no. 123198) are graphite leads in hardness H with a diameter of 2 mm. You fit them in your compass when the old lead is used up. The leads are 25 mm long and have a bevelled tip. According to Faber-Castell, they fit all compass models.

The set contains two plastic tins with 6 leads each, so 12 leads in total. That gives you spares for a good while, and you can keep one tin in your drawing case.

Changing the lead and choosing the right hardness

Hardness H is harder than a standard pencil. It gives fine, light lines and wears down more slowly, which is why it is often used for technical drawing and precise constructions. For stronger, darker lines you need a softer lead. To change the lead, loosen the lead clamp on the compass leg, remove the remainder of the old lead and slide in the new one. Set it so that its tip is level with the needle point when the compass is closed, and tighten the clamp firmly so the lead does not slip when you draw circles.
